Dimitra according to the Greek mythology is the goddess of agriculture. She gives to people the fruits of the land, especially the wheat. She symbolizes the mysterious depths of theland which give life to the plants but also hide the dark world of the death.
The story of Dimitra goes back to 2004. It begins with my Aunt Mary who is a world traveler and a Philadelphia Public School teacher. In the spring of 2004 Aunt Mary entered several of her students into an essay contest about the "Olympic Spirit". The winning student would get an all expenses paid trip to the Athens Olympics along with a parent and their teacher.
One of her students won, and Aunt Mary got a trip to the Olympic games. Upon her return, I got Dimitra.
Being a 24 year old male, I had no real use for a greek goddess doll/keychain made out of cheesecloth. Thus, Dimitra sat in a box for several years until she was unpacked in her home in Boulder, Co.
What started as "where the hell do we put this thing", turned into a game between me and my beautiful girlfriend Mara. Over the next several weeks Dimitra would randomly appear throughout the house, hanging from light fixtures, sitting in car seats, chillin' on a scratching post, or taking a trip in the washing machine.
And thus, "Where is Dimitra?" is born...
